The New Year is always a time of new beginnings, a time for a change, and a time for setting new goals - you can jump on board with us this January to get hints and tips on kicking off the new year with a new career!

To start we suggest you make a few career-related New Year's resolutions and commit yourself to achieving them in the next 12 months - the three p's of your success will be positioning, persistence and personality.

Position yourself for the correct job

If you've got your ideal career in mind it stands to reason that you'll need to show your experience in that field in your application.  If you've not yet achieved the level of experience required think about enrolling on a training course.  You can find a selection of training courses here. There's plenty of inexpensive or even free courses, maybe consider volunteering to achieve the familiarity of the roll you're dreaming of.  Franchise opportunities often offer training as part of the franchise package.

Persistence

Although, employment is at an all time high according to gov.uk you won't be alone in applying for a job.  Be prepared to have to show your competence to your prospective employer. There's no harm in following up a job application with a phone call, you might even want to follow the business that you've applied to on social media to get a feel of their company ethos (check your social media account is worthy to be seen by a potential employer first). Keep motivated, turn getting a job into a job itself, if you set yourself regular job searching hours you'll feel so much better than you would if you were making ad hoc applications.

Personality

We know you rock! But does your potential employer?  You've got bags of personality so don't be afraid to show it.

A lot of us tend to make the mistake of assuming that the job interview process is like another test we have to take in life.  We assume that there are right answers to every question that may help us secure a job. The world does not need you to suppress your true self — only an ill-fitting job will accomplish that!

The fantastic Dr. Seuss said, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

Now you've got your three p's covered it's time to get cracking, and where better to start your job search than here.
