Treaty Jewellery - career at home

This month we talk to Maggie Allonby-Briggs from Bath, Somerset, a working mum who fits her job around her family.

How did you first get into Treaty Jewellery?

Over the past 25 years I have had many jobs but my favourite and most fulfilling is certainly Treaty Jewellery. I work with my son Josh, who is also a director in the business and together we have developed our own Jewellery brand. Learning as we go the business has developed into a successful brand with over 600 exclusive stockists in the UK and Europe.

What inspired you?

I take my inspiration from the people and places I have visited around the world. My brand has a distinctly Eastern feel with a modern twist. I love silver Jewellery and wanted to produce pieces that are wearable and full of style. Wearing Treaty Jewellery will always get you noticed. Classic statement necklaces, gorgeous rings and earrings. All at prices to suit every pocket and age group.

Have you had formal training?

I studied Art at Harrow College and I have always been interested in good design. Designing Jewellery is very satisfying and when I see my pieces being worn by women around the world I still get goosebumps!

What makes you successful?

The success of Treaty Jewellery is down to hard work and enthusiasm for the finished product. My team at Treaty all love Jewellery and that shines through in the work they do. We love to show off the Jewellery collections at various trade shows throughout the year, both in the UK and Paris.

Does your work fit well around children?

When my children were small I started showing the Jewellery to friends and family. Everyone loved it so I started organising Jewellery parties, soon everyone was talking about it. I worked in the evenings so it was the perfect work/life balance for me and my family.

When my children went off to university I decided to open a shop and concentrate full time on the business, as things progressed I decided to start selling to other shops and the rest is history. I now offer a party plan option to Mums who want to earn extra money and work around their children. Everything is possible if you work at it. Enthusiasm is contagious - if you love what your doing chances are other people will too.
